Welcome to our PEZ collection Blog. This collection started over 10 years ago when Keith was given a couple of PEZ and has grown from these few little toys to what is now 1074 dispensers and more than 140 other PEZ related collectables. Since Keith is in the Air Force and has no place to keep this collection where he lives we have remained the caretakers of the museum.

We will try to keep you up to date with the latest PEZ news, including new releases, and let you watch as this collection grows.

Please feel free to leave any comments you may have.

PEZylvania 2

We had a great time at PEZylvania 2 were we met many friends old and new. We also met up with our friends who's daughter Jess began collecting about a year ago. After three of four times around the room she ended up with 63 new PEZ. She needed so much that she was able to score a lot of .50 and $1 dispensers. It was great to see the smile on her face and if anybody was doing the PDOJ she was. We even picked up some stuff for Keith's collection. On the way home we stopped at a Chick-Fil-A were we ate a late (3:30) lunch and picked up a few Cow PEZ!! It was like a mini convention there as one Pezhead after another stopped on the way home for the Cow PEZ.

The gathering made the local newspaper. You can see their story at this link http://readingeagle.com/article.aspx?id=110396

A Pez Story

About a year ago a friend of ours 12 year old daughter began her own Pez collection. Recently Jess was able to come and see Keith’s collection for the first time. We were directed that while she was here we should get out the tote of extras, which has accumulated for over 10 years, and allow her to have anything she wanted. After a few gentle nudges and some “here you’ve got to have this one” she ended up with a shopping bag full of dispensers, many of which she would never find in the local stores.

The reason we tell this story is simple. For those of you who many years ago gave a young collector something extra when he made a purchase at a convention or more recently gave a special price because you found out he was in the military it has now been “Paid Forward” in your name and a new Pez collector knows the meaning of PDOJ. Ain’t it a great community?

There are also many Pez conventions held every year throughout the country. We began attending PEZAMANIA in Cleveland about 8 years ago. The first year Keith was in the Air Force we attended the show in Cleveland without him and spend a lot of time on our cell phone discussing what we should buy.

Last year he was transferred to an Air Base in SC so we arranged to attend the Myrtle Beach convention with him. Since we live in PA we had a much further distance to travel but it was well worth the trip. We understand he has plans to attend Myrtle Beach again this year. http://www.pezgathering.com/mbcon.html

A History Of Pez

In 1927 in the country Austria, Edward Haas came up with this new peppermint candy. The word PEZ comes from the German word for peppermint (pfefferminz). It was an adult breath mint that he decided to market as an alternative for smoking. From the word pfefferminz they took the first, middle and last letter and came up with the word PEZ. Then in 1948 they came out with the "easy, hygenic dispenser" that we all recognize now to be a regular.

In 1952 PEZ wanted to expand their sales so they set their sights on the U.S.A., to make their product more appealing to Americans. The first character dispenser was full body Santa Claus, produced in the mid 1950's. Unlike most all later character dispensers, in which the stem is simply a rectangular cartridge, the first Santa's body was very detailed, sporting black boots, red coat and "PEZ" emblazoned across his chest. The next full body dispenser was Space Trooper and it came in solid colors ranging from gold to fire engine red and depicted a robot like spaceman. They placed heads on the dispensers and marketed it for children. Today although still marketed to children many adults have become avid collectors.

How Many Pez Are There?

Many collectors have asked this question and I have never seen a complete answer. The problem is what do you count as a dispenser? For example the Ninja Turtles have 4 characters and each character has two faces. This make 8 pez dispensers. Right? Well there are 7 stem colors so if you collect each variation there are 56 total turtles. The same things happens with the Funky Faces with 13 faces and 5 colors making 65 if you count every stem color. There are other examples but I hope you see my point.

I guess the best answer is that there are more dispensers then you will ever be able to collect. So I figure that means buy what you like and will be proud to add to your collection.

Last New Disney

We finally found the New Daisy Duck the last of the new Disney collection we needed. If you have not seen them hopefully these pictures will help. It took us a while to get all of them. Keith found three in Italy when he was there, we traded for the Goofy with a collector in Israel and now found Daisy at a local grocery store. That's one more to check off our needs list. PDOJ

Here Kitty Kitty Kitty

We received these from a trade with a collector in England. Although we had the 4 clear one that were out a few years ago in the lunch box set we did not have the Kuririn which is the tan colored one. Besides these are in tubes and labeled for sale in Europe. That makes them different anyway.

New Cabinet

We have been working on a new cabinet for the Pez collection and hope to have it completed by Christmas. Keith Grandpa built it and we are now trying to get the finish on it before Keith comes home on leave. Anyway here are a couple of pictures to give you an idea of what it will look like.
