We hope everyone had a Great Christmas. We have been very busy here and in fact leaving soon for still our third Christmas celebration. In between all this making merry i want to take a couple minutes to post some pictures of the Pez collection additions.
Keith opening one of 55 Pez that were in his gift bag.
Welcome to our PEZ collection Blog. This collection started over 10 years ago when Keith was given a couple of PEZ and has grown from these few little toys to what is now 1074 dispensers and more than 140 other PEZ related collectables. Since Keith is in the Air Force and has no place to keep this collection where he lives we have remained the caretakers of the museum.
We will try to keep you up to date with the latest PEZ news, including new releases, and let you watch as this collection grows.
Please feel free to leave any comments you may have.

PEZylvania 2
We had a great time at PEZylvania 2 were we met many friends old and new. We also met up with our friends who's daughter Jess began collecting about a year ago. After three of four times around the room she ended up with 63 new PEZ. She needed so much that she was able to score a lot of .50 and $1 dispensers. It was great to see the smile on her face and if anybody was doing the PDOJ she was. We even picked up some stuff for Keith's collection. On the way home we stopped at a Chick-Fil-A were we ate a late (3:30) lunch and picked up a few Cow PEZ!! It was like a mini convention there as one Pezhead after another stopped on the way home for the Cow PEZ.

A Pez Story
About a year ago a friend of ours 12 year old daughter began her own Pez collection. Recently Jess was able to come and see Keith’s collection for the first time. We were directed that while she was here we should get out the tote of extras, which has accumulated for over 10 years, and allow her to have anything she wanted. After a few gentle nudges and some “here you’ve got to have this one” she ended up with a shopping bag full of dispensers, many of which she would never find in the local stores.
The reason we tell this story is simple. For those of you who many years ago gave a young collector something extra when he made a purchase at a convention or more recently gave a special price because you found out he was in the military it has now been “Paid Forward” in your name and a new Pez collector knows the meaning of PDOJ. Ain’t it a great community?

There are also many Pez conventions held every year throughout the country. We began attending PEZAMANIA in Cleveland about 8 years ago. The first year Keith was in the Air Force we attended the show in Cleveland without him and spend a lot of time on our cell phone discussing what we should buy.
Last year he was transferred to an Air Base in SC so we arranged to attend the Myrtle Beach convention with him. Since we live in PA we had a much further distance to travel but it was well worth the trip. We understand he has plans to attend Myrtle Beach again this year. http://www.pezgathering.com/mbcon.html

A History Of Pez
In 1927 in the country Austria, Edward Haas came up with this new peppermint candy. The word PEZ comes from the German word for peppermint (pfefferminz). It was an adult breath mint that he decided to market as an alternative for smoking. From the word pfefferminz they took the first, middle and last letter and came up with the word PEZ. Then in 1948 they came out with the "easy, hygenic dispenser" that we all recognize now to be a regular.
In 1952 PEZ wanted to expand their sales so they set their sights on the U.S.A., to make their product more appealing to Americans. The first character dispenser was full body Santa Claus, produced in the mid 1950's. Unlike most all later character dispensers, in which the stem is simply a rectangular cartridge, the first Santa's body was very detailed, sporting black boots, red coat and "PEZ" emblazoned across his chest. The next full body dispenser was Space Trooper and it came in solid colors ranging from gold to fire engine red and depicted a robot like spaceman. They placed heads on the dispensers and marketed it for children. Today although still marketed to children many adults have become avid collectors.

How Many Pez Are There?
Many collectors have asked this question and I have never seen a complete answer. The problem is what do you count as a dispenser? For example the Ninja Turtles have 4 characters and each character has two faces. This make 8 pez dispensers. Right? Well there are 7 stem colors so if you collect each variation there are 56 total turtles. The same things happens with the Funky Faces with 13 faces and 5 colors making 65 if you count every stem color. There are other examples but I hope you see my point.
I guess the best answer is that there are more dispensers then you will ever be able to collect. So I figure that means buy what you like and will be proud to add to your collection.

Last New Disney
We finally found the New Daisy Duck the last of the new Disney collection we needed. If you have not seen them hopefully these pictures will help. It took us a while to get all of them. Keith found three in Italy when he was there, we traded for the Goofy with a collector in Israel and now found Daisy at a local grocery store. That's one more to check off our needs list. PDOJ

We have been working on a new cabinet for the Pez collection and hope to have it completed by Christmas. Keith Grandpa built it and we are now trying to get the finish on it before Keith comes home on leave. Anyway here are a couple of pictures to give you an idea of what it will look like.

We just received these in the mail this week. Keith traded for the Mystic Ball and I traded for the new Alex and Marty. The new ones are in the bags and were only available at the Cinemark Theaters and there are none of them near us. We still need Melman and Skipper.

Try Trading
If you are looking for that hard to find Pez, instead of buying it at an auction try trading for it with one of your extras. We have begun doing this and found that it works out very well for everyone. We have traded with people throughout this great country and abroad sending Pez to places like Israel and Sweden.
Don't have any extras you say. Well maybe something you can get in your area is needed by someone else. For example many of the NCAA footballs are a local release as are the MLB's that came out this year. Or someone in Canada or Europe would like a US release in exchange for a Euro release. There are a lot of possibilities out there. So do something different and maybe make some new friends in the process.

New Christmas Crystals
After running to five different Target Stores this weekend we finally found the new Christmas Crystal Pez on the Target Value cards. These are going be hard to find so you need to get out there looking for them now. We had one clerk open a new box of 24 and he only found three crystals in it. For those who collect variations for some reason ( I don't know why ) there are different numbers on Santa's forehead. We found the number 3, a backwards 4 and an upside down 2. Don't know how many more numbers are out there!

In From Israel
We just got these in the mail from a Pez collector in Israel. We traded him some Christmas Pez in tubes for these. The Goofy is the last one we needed to complete the Disney release from this year and we did not have any of the Looney Tunes Soccer. It's fun trading with folks from around the world.
We also received Mickey this week from a collector in Texas. Although we have 12 Mickeys this one is a little different than any of those. Keith traded this for the last TMNT that she needed to complete her Turtles set.

Myrtle Beach Bound
Keith will be heading to the Fun In The Sun Convention tomorrow. He has been looking forward to this for a long time and we just wish we could join him there like we did last year. I know he has a list of vintage he wants and a pocket full of cash so there should be some dealers that are as happy that he is going as he is. Hopefully he will send us some pictures that we can post here. Check back next week to see what he bought.

New Pez Issued

It has been a great couple of weeks for new issues of Pez. Here is a list of just out or coming soon. At Walmart you should start to find a Batman set that includes a Bat on the stem of Batman. Also this month are a new Cars 4pc boxed set and the Star Trek boxed set. To add to the college footballs Nebraska and BYU and scheduled to be released as well.
Chick-Fil-A is going to be selling a Pez that is in the design of their cow used in their ad campaigns. The stem will state Eat More Chikin. This is be as collectible as the Jack In The Box was in the 90's.
Looks like there is a lot of Pez hunting to go on in the next few weeks.

New Additions For October

We have had a couple new additions to the collection this week. One is the Christmas Bear which although is the same bear as last year it is on a baby blue stem. Not everyone collects stem variations but we have been for many years so why stop now?
The other one Keith bought is the Cocoa Marsh Astronaut. It was a premium that was given away with Cocoa Marsh ( old enough to remember that?). This has been an item he has looked at before but never bought.
Keep watching as we are headed to Pezsylvania on the 18th and Keith is going to Myrtle beach for the Fun in The Sun Pez convention the following weekend. I am sure we will be bringing something back for those conventions.

Never Too Young
Our friends Teresa and Norm just returned from Vietnam were they completed the adoption of their son Derek. Their daughter is the girl that Keith gave a lot of extras to earlier this year. Anyway we were at the airport when they arrived and of course had to present him with his first Pez. My plan is to bring him to the Pezside by the time he is four. I just need to teach him how to say "Crazy Pez Guy"

Mini Pezfest
All the Pez that we bought over the summer traveled with us to South Carolina so Keith could get a look at them up close and personal. He also has some that we had acquired this summer and brought them over to the hotel as well. So Friday morning we spent some time just looking at what everyone had, even though we had exchanged pictures. For those who have been to a Pez convention this was like a one room room hoping.
While we were out and about in town Keith picked up the new Target Carded Halloween Pez. Those along with everything else will be on there way back to our house for storage. Keith just does not have the room to keep them here.

Road Trip
We are taking a road trip to South Carolina to spend a few days with Keith ( and maybe Hanna ?) So we decided to take along some of the Pez we have adopted over the summer. These are the ones that Keith has only been able to see through the pictures we sent him. It's kinda like a traveling Pez show. We will also get a chance to see some of the stuff that he has given a new home to this year. I can't wait to see the Bicentennial ones that he has.

Looks like these guys are ready to go.

Altered Pez
These special creatures have just been added to Keith's collection. They are the creation of a Pez collector who is known to the Pez world as PEZscrapper. How she creates these Altered Pez I have no idea but they sure are nice. We all, especially Keith, want to thank her for this little addition. These will definitely have a special place in the display case.

Yard Sales

Keith has added to the collection this weekend by going to some yard sales. Well after a few stops he found a treasure in a box full of junk toys. He did not pay a lot for the four pez that he found. For you non collectors these are Cockatoo, Rooster, Octopus and One Eyed Monster. As you can see they are non footed and were produced in the 60's.
He also purchased a Mickey Die Cut Face on Ebay tonight. He went after this because it has a DBP marking on it. The DBP means Deutsches Bundes Patent and these were only released in Germany. This will be the first one with these markings in his collection.

Recent Acquisitions
Some of the additions to the collection over the last few weeks are to continue to add to a series of dispensers. Two of these were a Bozo and Donald Duck die cut stems. These are from the early 60's and leave him missing Casper and an Easter Bunny to finish this series. The other was an Indian Chief that is part of the Bicentennial collection. This is a series he has always wanted and although this is only the second piece he has it is a start. We all keep looking at sites like EBay and Craig's List to see what deals we can find. Who knows what will be added next.
